On November 9th I was asked to present a workshop to the attendees of the DC Urban Resiliency Weekend, Which was part of The Permaculture Action Tour, a national effort to educate, promote, and network Permaculture. I spoke on 5 Permaculture Plants for Food Security. It ended up being a discussion of more than a dozen species of easy to grow, highly productive, nutrient rich, low input plants that can provide food security, even in small space Urban settings. The five plants we started with were : Hosta, SunChokes, Comfrey, Hazelnuts, and Autumn Olive.
The honorable mention catagory included Sea Kale, Chestnut, Daylillies, Lambs Quarters, Dandelion, Acorns, Kiwi. Also discussed were Black Walnuts and Ground Nut.
It was a great opportunity to teach as well as learn Permaculture Design.
